Apple admits iPod touch released with faulty screens
Negative black effect confirmed, but limited

In light of hundreds of complaints from early buyers of Apple's new iPod touch, Apple had admitted that some iPod touch units were produced with faulty screens. Stores currently selling the iPod touch (Apple stores, BestBuy, and others) have been confirmed to be selling some iPod touches with the faulty screens, which result in a "negative black" effect when a video or image has a dark colour against a dark background.
Apple is working to remedy the situation, which appears to be hardware-related, by replacing store stock. Not all iPod touch units sold have exhibited the "negative black" issue, but enough complaints have cropped up that Apple is attempting to solve the problem quickly and quietly.
According to CrunchGear.com, customers with the faulty iPods who have returned them to the Apple retail stores for replacement have either had their claims denied, or been forced to pay a restocking fee of between $30 and $40. Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal reports that "Apple says this problem affected a small number of units and is being remedied". No official word from Apple is currently available regarding any remedial action Apple will offer customers who purchased an iPod touch with a defective screen.
